Melbourne is a large and culturally diverse city. With over 120 different languages spoken in Melbourne schools, learning about Australian identity can be challenging for young children. Our curriculum enables students to explore many of Australia's cultural traditions and values as well as the history, geography and culture of Victoria. We use a variety of resources including our school’s own multicultural focus days where we bring activities from various cultures into our classrooms on a regular basis.
The National Curriculum for English (the three strands: literacy;numeracy和communication) are taught with an emphasis on speaking and listening as well as writing and reading skills. The Victorian Curriculum also requires that all new arrivals in Australia complete 48 credit points of VCE studies to ensure their academic achievement in school and success in life after graduation. To make this transition easier, there is a special program for recent arrival students which helps them build confidence and achieve at school. All teachers are qualified and professional educators who have been trained to meet the specific needs of international students.
A key element in helping students settle into a new country and adapt to life at school is the strong support system provided by the school. Parents play an important role through active participation in class and School Activities Committee(SAC)which organizes social events and field trips throughout the year such like Halloween party、 Mother's Day、 Christmas Celebration etc., to help students feel part of a warm and welcoming community.
